It’s time to PLAY! Free Taster Dance Workshops for Parents and Children
Arts Narrogin presents ‘Because of You…Narrogin’ by Sandi Woo – an all-embracing dance
project celebrating the connections between children aged 4-7 and the adults they love.
Kicking off on May 13th and 14th with FREE taster dance workshops in Narrogin, young children are
invited to attend with a parent, grandparent, carer or adult sibling to learn dance together though
fun and play. Arts Narrogin presents this multi-generational community dance project, produced by
Annette Carmichael Projects and created by award winning choreographer Sandi Woo.
This unique dance project is a reminder of the tenderness and importance of human connection,
which is now paramount due to the impact of increased isolation and separation caused by the
global pandemic.
Choreographer Sandi Woo said “Because of You… was inspired at a time when I was a parent of
two young boys. I wanted a creative and playful way to foster connections with my eldest, I wanted
to dance with him and I wanted to share this experience with other parents. I also wanted more
opportunities for joy and laughter in our lives.”
Following the taster workshops, participants can attend a series of playful online workshops,
culminating in a live-streamed performance in July. The performance is made through a series of
fun interactive online workshops during which performers learn games which they play during the
show.
Arts Narrogin’s Brad Flett said “Arts Narrogin is excited to be hosting this wonderful project,
‘Because of You…’. With all that is going on at present in the world and in our small communities,
this project is a timely reminder of the importance of communication and connectedness,
especially within the family unit. I believe this residency will provide much joy and sense of
belonging to several participating families in our community.”
Project producer Annette Carmichael says “I’m passionate about dance and I’ve seen how this
project brings people together to have fun and build positive relationships within families.
Watching the children’s confidence grow over the course of the project is especially inspiring.”
This is the fourth season of ‘Because of You…’ by Sandi Woo, with workshops and performances
previously held in Broome, Gosnells and Denmark. This project responds to the challenges of our
time and the need for connection. ‘Because of You…’ has evolved to compliment the changing
pandemic environment, with attendance to workshops and the final performance taking place
through online platforms.
Dads and grandparents are especially encouraged to get involved.

Workshops take place on Friday May 13th at 4pm, and Saturday 14th May at 10am at Narrogin
Dance Centre, 52 Fortune St, Narrogin. We recommend participants attend both workshops to gain the fullest experience of the project.
