Our Creative Community Mural Brings Colour and Connection to Narrogin
At the end of August, Arts Narrogin was proud to host a community mural workshop led by acclaimed street artist Jerome Davenport. Together, more than 20 local participants rolled up their sleeves to transform the east wall of the Arts Narrogin building into a bold and colourful celebration of the many forms of creativity that thrive in our community – from music and live performance to visual arts, film, and literature.
Over the course of just three and a half days, participants contributed almost 200 hours of painting and helping hands, with individuals spending anywhere from a single hour to the full duration of the project. The result is a striking new mural titled Our Creative Community – a joyful tribute to the role the arts play in connecting people, inspiring pride, and enriching our lives.
Jerome developed this vibrant and dynamic mural design, based on a concept sketch by Casey Sutton, and then guided participants through every step of the mural painting process, sharing his expertise and encouragement. Under his direction, locals of all ages gained new skills, confidence, and the rewarding experience of seeing their contributions come together as part of a large-scale public artwork.
The project was made possible through a collaboration between Arts Narrogin and the Shire of Narrogin.
Finally, a heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who picked up a spray can, stopped by to say hello, or offered a few words of encouragement – your energy and involvement kept the project energised right through to the end!
The finished mural, unveiled this week during a visit from His Excellency the Honourable Christopher John Dawson AC APM and Mrs Dawson, now stands as a permanent reminder of what we can achieve together, and the creativity at the heart of our community.
