Arts Narrogin unveils breakout exhibition by enRich Scholarship recipient Casey Jacobs
Arts Narrogin is proud to celebrate the remarkable success of their 2024 enRich Scholarship recipient, Casey Jacobs, whose debut solo exhibition Narrogin and the South West opened on Saturday 6 December, drawing a crowd of more than 100 people to celebrate the achievement.
The exhibition marks a significant milestone in Jacobs’ emerging artistic career, with the 18-year old photographer selling an impressive 35 pieces on opening night. Visitors travelled from Perth, as well as from across the South West and Wheatbelt regions of Western Australia, to experience Jacobs’ impressive photographic works and support his first public exhibition.
Developed as part of his enRich Scholarship, the exhibition showcases the results of Jacobs’ 12-month mentorship with award-winning landscape photographer Christian Fletcher. Fletcher’s professional guidance, generosity, and willingness to share his knowledge have played a key role in Jacobs’ artistic growth; with clear development in his confidence, refinement, and creative depth evident in the display.
A recent graduate of the WA College of Agriculture Narrogin, Jacobs’ work combines his passions for photography and farming. His drone-captured images of local landscapes, characterised by striking compositions, vibrant colour, and rich detail, bring a fresh perspective to familiar scenes and have resonated strongly with gallery visitors.
Arts Narrogin Managers Casey Sutton and Brad Flett said the evening exceeded already high expectations:
“Casey’s exhibition opening was nothing short of extraordinary. The quality of his work, the professionalism of its presentation, and the response from the public shows just how far he’s come in a short time. The enRich Scholarship is designed to nurture emerging talent in our district, and Casey has embraced every opportunity offered by it. We’re incredibly proud of what he’s achieved, and excited to see where he goes next.”
Jacobs shared his gratitude for the support, and reflections on the project:
“I was very thankful to be awarded the Arts Narrogin enRich Scholarship 12 months ago to support my creative journey with Christian Fletcher. The mentorship has been excellent, I’ve learnt so many things and my skills throughout the mentorship have increased. Christian has been very generous with his time and knowledge and I have felt honoured to be mentored by such an amazing photographer and person. I’m very excited to have my work exhibited at Arts Narrogin for everyone to see Narrogin and the South West from my creative point of view.”
The enRich Scholarship, delivered biannually by Arts Narrogin, provides emerging artists in Narrogin and the surrounding district with professional mentorship, financial and in-kind support to help launch and sustain their creative careers.
Following the success of the opening, discussions are already underway for further opportunities for Jacobs in 2026.
The Narrogin and the South West exhibition continues at Arts Narrogin until 31 January.
