Reimagining Endangered Flora in Australia

October 10, 2026 – October 31, 2026

Reimagining Endangered Flora in Australia brings together Xiaoyu Yang’s ongoing research into endangered plant species in Western Australia, exploring themes of climate change, ecological loss, memory and care.

Through detailed botanical drawings, photographic fieldwork and traditional Chinese bookbinding, Yang considers how we understand and remember the natural world.

The exhibition features An Incomplete Year, a series exploring changing plant cycles and the disruption of natural systems, alongside WA Fieldnotes: A Cabinet of Botanical Fragments, a long-form botanical archive documenting more than 45 endangered native plants.

Extending beyond the gallery, Plant Together, Protect Forever invites community participation through the growing of native plants and the sharing of observations and stories. Developed in collaboration with scientists from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA), the project connects artistic practice with ecological knowledge and community engagement.

Together, these works invite us to look more closely at Australia’s endangered flora — not simply as subjects of observation, but as living parts of our shared environment, carrying stories of place, change and resilience.
