Old Land [in a] New Light

Theme

Increasingly in our own region, like elsewhere on Earth, we are experiencing turmoil in previously unimagined ways, impacting human and non–human inhabitants alike, propelling and compelling profound change at unprecedented rates. However, whether we accept or resist, the upheavals also provoke positive opportunities for our creative experience, in our own diverse and unique ways. Our challenge is to act locally for the greatest global benefit and continue to live in hope of a better future. 

We invite you to respond to your experience of our Old Land, its people and the stories, perspectives and issues that resonate with you in the New Light of now. The works chosen for exhibition will be  innovative and stimulating, sure to excite, inspire and challenge our local community.

Public Programme

In association with the exhibition, up to four participating artists will be invited to facilitate paid workshops to enable our audience to explore and deepen their own creative experience.  We will also invite artists to give artist talks, demonstrations and otherwise engage with local audiences.  

Who Can Enter

• Local artists and those with a connection to local family, friends or country of any skill level may express an interest to participate, and may be invited. 
• Both individual and collaborative works are welcome 

Entry Conditions 

• Artwork of any artform or media will be considered for inclusion in the exhibition.
• The Artwork must be the original work of the artist(s).
• Artworks can be new or existing work not shown in Narrogin previously.
• All details must be supplied on the Artwork Details form. 
• Up to three (3) separate artworks may be entered.
• Maximum size of the work is 2m (h) x 1.2m (w) for wall-based pieces or 2m (h) x 0.8m (w) x 1m (d) for free-standing/self-supporting works. If your piece exceeds these dimensions, please contact us before submitting to discuss feasibility and space requirements. 
• You must arrange delivery of your artwork to and from Narrogin. 
• Please contact Arts Narrogin or Artretro if you need assistance to complete your entry.

Installation Requirements: 

• All 3D works must be self-supported, as we can not  suspend artworks from the ceiling. 
• If your work requires a plinth or specific display needs, please note this on your application or artwork details form so we can discuss options in advance. Please get in touch to discuss any special installation requirements prior to submitting. 
• 2D wall hung work must be ready to hang when delivered. That is, with suitable ‘D’ rings attached not less than ¼ of the height of the work for small works and not less than 10cm from the top for large works.

Selection of works for the Exhibition

• Depending on the number of entries, works may need to be selected for exhibition. In this case, works will be selected by the curatorial team on the bases of;
  • how they articulate or challenge the theme
  • the originality of the work,
  • artistic  creativity and 
  • technical excellence of the artwork. 
• Selection will be based on the information about the artworks provided by the artists in the application form, along with additional supporting information they may provide to support selection of their work.
• We’re especially interested in works that offer novel or unexpected perspectives on the theme 

Sale of Artwork

• We encourage artists to offer their artwork for sale. 
• There will be a commission of 25% applied at the time of sale of artworks, payable to Arts Narrogin. Please price artworks accordingly

How to Submit 

• Simply complete and submit the online application form below.
• We recommend submitting your application early to help us with our administration and for you to receive updates.
• An Artwork Details form will be provided to participating artists and will need to be submitted by 4 July with payment of the entry fee of $15 per artwork, payable to Arts Narrogin.

• Deadline for Application forms: 20 May 2026 (11 weeks before delivery day)
• Notification of selected artists: 29 May 2026 (less than 9 weeks before delivery day)
• Online gathering of artists to discuss ideas: 3 June 2026 (8 weeks before delivery day)
• Distribute Artwork Details forms to participating artists: 4 June 2026
• Online gathering of artists to discuss progress: 3 July 2026 (4 weeks before delivery day)
• Deadline for submission of Artwork Details forms and payment due: 4 July 2026
• Final date for Artwork details: 15 July 2026 (3 weeks before Opening night)
• Deadline for delivery of Artworks: Wednesday 29 July 2026
• Installation of works: from Saturday 1 August 2026
• Exhibition preview: from 10am, Friday 6 August 2026
• Opening Event: 2.00 pm Saturday 8 August 2026
• Exhibition: Saturday 8 August – Saturday 29 August 
• Bump Out: 29 August – 2 September 2026
• Works maybe collected from 4.30pm on 29 August
