About the Artist

Mike Beckwith was born in Penrith in the English Lake District at the age of 12 he emigrated to Perth with his family in 1969.  After high school he went on to college to study Architectural Drafting  and Graphic Design.  A successful career as a professional artist and photographer in the advertising and printing industry kept him very busy for the next ten years .He was introduced to photography with his first camera at the age of four, by time he turned seventeen his was shooting weddings. At art school and after his artistic pursuits went in many directions, winning awards for film making, furniture design and stage set design.

His move to Narrogin in 1985 was suppose to be  brief , but took on a totally new direction that has seen him live, work, marry, and raise a family .

It wasn’t until 2007 that  he returned to painting on a regular basis, the bulk of this work  being portraits painted on commission.

It is rare to see his work exhibited  as the paintings would need to be borrowed back from their owners to be displayed. Many Narrogin locals would have seen him demonstrating his art at the Spring Festivals, Art Trails or taken part in one of his art workshops . His work now hangs in homes and business around Australia and far beyond, but a large proportion of his portraits are Narrogin locals and in more recent times a collection of south west landscapes and wildlife studies.
